Which level are youI would like to see world rankings and how many are on the top level as there cant be too many of us?

I'm on 1663 and the leaderboard says I'm ranked 4th in the United States right now but I am confused as I know there are levels 1 to 2 thousand further ahead of me. I'd imagine that the people playing level 3 thousand and above should be ranked way higher than me so I am a bit confused as to how and why the leaderboards don't more accurately depict my rank amongst other CC players. If anyone has a better explanation then please enlighten me as to wtf the in game leaderboards are doing and if there is somewhere else to see a better leaderboard? I'd really appreciate it. Janaka, where are you looking at the ranking? Is it on your profile picture? Is it from a leader board?

On profile pic in game lists 54 people... one urugiay, colombia, uk, not my friends... ? So who are the people listed?1
